Mayor's Charity Bowls Match

Mayor's Match vs. Auriol

On Monday 6 June, in perfect conditions for bowls – blue skies, warm with a gentle breeze, and a top-class green – the new Mayor of Epsom & Ewell, George Crawford, brought a select team of bowlers drawn from clubs in Surrey and Sussex to Auriol Park, to play against a team from his own club, Auriol Bowling Club.
What followed was a nail-biting match, with fortunes across the six rinks flowing backwards and forwards, but in the end the host team, Auriol, won by a total of 99 shots to 86. Proceeds from the afternoon, totalling £217, went to the Mayor’s chosen charity Macmillan Cancer Support.

Many thanks to the Auriol members who laid on a delicious tea.

Very many thanks to all those club members who came to the Trifest at Auriol Park on Sunday 4 September to support the club. With apologies to anyone who was there but who’ve not been mentioned, our thanks go to the hard-working coaches Chris Ballard, Jan Kentish and Dave Rich, and also to Dave Kentish, Jan & Cliff Kirkpatrick, Lana Leonard, Sue Barnard, David Leamer, Ros Long, Keith Gomm, Shirley Tracey, Margaret Ball, Brian Russell, James Seeley, Jim Bradshaw, Ken Amess, Doreen & Ron Weight, Jim Fisher, and David Jarvis … and not forgetting our very own club member and Mayor, George Crawford!
It’s been estimated that around 3000 people attended the Trifest, and many were attracted up onto our green to meet & chat with members, and to try their hand at bowling. A number of them expressed interest in the possibility of coming back when the new season starts, which we shall follow up. An additional attraction this year was the Bowls Snooker challenge (thank you, James Seeley, for the idea!), which raised funds for the club, and was won by club social member Maureen Young.
Thank you all once again.
