The Pre-Season meeting was held on Saturday 7 April in St. Mary's Church Hall, The Avenue, Worcester Park. This was an informal event, to set the scene for the new season.
Captains vs. Vice-Captains Match
The traditional season-opening Captains vs. Vice-Captains match took place on Saturday 21 April, with the Captains' team emerging as winners of this first leg.
Monday Morning Roll-Up Competition
Please join the Monday Morning Roll-Up competition. This is held every Monday morning starting at 11.00 (NB: last entry by 10.50), except when there is a Drive. There will be a one-off charge of £1 to enter, which will go towards a cash prize for the winner and runner-up in September.
Our two Open Days took place on Sunday 13 May & Saturday 9 June. 'Taster' sessions are offered on Thursday mornings, starting at 11.00.
President's Charity Drive
Took place on Monday 28 May starting at 2.30, followed by a cream tea. A grand total of £363 was raised on the day for The Alzheimer's Society.
BBQ and Fun Day
Around 60 Auriol members and their guests celebrated with a BBQ and Fun Day, a weekend in which England won by a record margin at the World Cup, beat South Africa in rugby union, the Australians in the cricket One Day International series (completing a whitewash), and Lewis Hamilton won the French Grand Prix.
A feast such as we had for 60 people does not just appear by magic, but the Catering team are so slick that it almost appeared to do so. Thank you all to those who helped plan, buy and prepare the delicious food, our chefs who stood in excessive heat to cook, as well as those who prepared the tables and cleared up.
Of course not forgetting the Vice-Captains who organised the bowling (including a very challenging target rink, complete with obstacles!).
Took place on Monday 16 July, commencing with roll-up triples on three rinks (and an interesting game of target bowls on a fourth rink!). The Ploughman's Lunch was a superb spread, going well beyond the staple bread and cheese, rounded off with strawberries and ice cream (and/or cream). Our thanks and congratulations to the Catering team, led by Shirley Tracey.
On Saturday 11 August, around three dozen members enjoyed a game of bowls, followed by a delicious Fisn'n'Chip Supper, organised by the Catering team.
On Saturday 8 September, starting at 10.30; Reserve Finals Day on Sunday 9 September starting at 11.00. Volunteer Markers and Scorers are needed, so if you can help, please put your name on the list on the Notice Board in the pavilion.
Torquay Bowls Trip
The annual tour to Torquay will take place this year from Sunday October 7th to Friday October 12th. The package includes B&B plus evening meal, 2 hours bowling against local/touring clubs daily; however, some may just wish to relax after a busy outdoor season, so there are plenty of other options available. The annual Presentation Dinner will be held on Saturday 10 November, and the venue has now been confirmed as Banstead Golf Club. See the Notice Board in the pavilion for further details.
